Nisha Duggal creates relational portraits that explore
creativity and performance in the everyday. Bridging media
and platforms her practice attempts to define a conceptual
framework for living within an increasingly digitised and
overloaded world.
Her first solo exhibition at Watermans will present a new film
Things to Make and Do alongside a selection of video from her
back-catalogue. Blending documentary and simulation Things to
Make and Do follows the hobbies and past-times of a disparate group
of people, and reflects the artists' interest in making a
comparison between everyday leisure pursuits and the consumption
and production of contemporary art.
Nisha Duggal's films and drawings have exhibited internationally
including installations at Arnolfini (Bristol), Ginza Art Lab
(Tokyo), Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art (Gateshead) and Oriel
Mostyn (Llandudno) and screenings at Rekalde (Bilbao), Cornerhouse
(Manchester) and Iniva (London). She has been awarded
commissions by Site Gallery (Sheffield) and Contemporary Art Forum
(Kitchener, Ontario). Nisha studied at Derby and The Slade
and was shortlisted for the Jerwood Moving Image Awards in
2008. She completed the Florence Trust residency in 2010 and
has work in the Saatchi Collection. Nisha lives and works in
London
