Behnma's art is eclectic, using oils, watercolours, acrylics and many other materials. His use of colour is particularly striking. In his work East meets West, reflecting European influences including Klimt, Chagall,and Picasso alongside the artists own Persian heritage

Behnam Askari is a highly gifted visual artist born in Iran. He has a Diploma with Merit in Art and Design from Byam Shaw School of Art and is currently a BA (Hons) Fine Arts student at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.

Behnam cannot return to his native Iran where his life would be in danger. He and his mother have been sentenced in absentia on political charges, following the arrest of two of his friends and then his father. Both he and his mother face prison and torture. Behnam's determination to carry on under adversity was publicly acknowledged when he was one of fifteen young people from across the UK to be Highly Commended at the Anne Frank Awards 2007. The awards recognise qualities such as inspiration, kindness, compassion, great personal strength, moral courage, and determination to stand up for what is right.

Behnam Askari's struggle for asylum in the UK continues. He has so far been refused leave to remain despite the fact that his life is at risk. In addition this wonderful young man is unquestionably a huge asset to this country and to the world of Art and Design. There is widespread support for this family in such need of protection.
