About this event

Come and be transported into a Parisian scented twilight world of song.

Winner of “Spirit of the Fringe” 2017 in Edinburgh, Glasgow chanteuse, Christine Bovill has built her reputation on the massively successful sell-out show, PIAF.

On her second visit to Watermans, she presents “Christine Bovill’s PARIS”-5 star (Scotsman)- and beckons you back to the Golden Age of French Song; a demi-monde of heroes and outcasts, cynics and bruised romantics.

With drama, pathos and pizzazz, the show casts a sepia-tinged spotlight on the songs and stories of Jacques Brel, Edith Piaf, Barbara, Juliet Greco, Charles Aznavour and more…

About the Artist

Christine Bovill has built a formidable reputation as a song writing jazz chanteuse. After some years of English teaching by day and singing in the jazz haunts of her native city, Christine quit the classroom to pursue a career in performing. Her natural progression into song writing would reveal a major talent, one devoted to the power of the lyric. She won the Glasgow Festival of Song Writing and soon released Derby Street, her first album and BBC Radio Scotland’s Album of the Week.

Over the last eight years Christine has established herself as a much-sought live performer with a massively successful sold-out show, Christine Bovill’s Piaf (which came to Watermans in Winter 2018)  and more recently Christine Bovill’s Paris. Both shows were greatly received by the critics, gaining 5-star ratings from National press and saw her pick up the Spirit of the Fringe Award 2017 in Edinburgh.

She has toured the show internationally, in the UK, Europe and as far as South Korea, where she was accompanied by a symphony orchestra.

Christine has performed live on TV and radio many times : ITV, BBC Newsnight and on Radio 4’s Soul Music, and has written lyrics for two tracks on a film score for Sony.

Christine is currently dividing her time between touring and writing her third album.

Part of our Spring Friday Nights Live season.
