About this event

Polish Film Talk
This screening will be introduced by Michael Brooke, a freelance writer specialising in central/eastern European cinema. He’ll be giving an extensively illustrated talk about Polish films with child and teenage protagonists, sometimes bearing witness to great events of the 20th century, sometimes wrestling with more everyday concerns.

Filmmakers covered include such big names as Krzysztof Kieślowski and Andrzej Wajda, as well as ones who've specialised in this subject, like Dorota Kędzierzawska, Wojciech Marczewski and Katarzyna Rosłaniec.

Back Then (15 Cert TBC) (original title Zupa Nic) - Marta is a romantic and a victim of fate. She shares a room with her sister Kasia and their grandmother, who tells her granddaughters insurgent stories instead of fairy tales. In the room behind the wall, their parents Tadek and Elzbieta live their married life. He is an intellect, constantly humiliated by the system, who silently envies his prosperous brother-in-law. She is the president of the company's "Solidarity" with the need for freedom and a dream to finally break out of Poland. However, the real emotions for the whole family start when the dream orange toddler stands under the block.
