About this event
This workshop explores how art can help overcome a sense of isolation which can be brought on by digital technology, seen at its most extreme in the Japanese phenomenon of Hikikomori. It looks at how art can be used as a tool to release people from social stereotypes, judgements and pressures.
The workshop will challenge participants to observe, describe, document and communicate about their immediate environment and their perceptions of it through sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch. Many different materials and textures will be used such as clay, fabrics, threads and wires. Participants will construct visual representations of their sensory experience, and document them to share with others. The discussion will centre on how our subjective view impacts on how we understand and communicate about the world around us.
The workshop is for the general public with an interest in the creative process, as well as for artist who would like to consider how subjectivity impacts on the creative process.
Suitable for beginners and beyond.
