About this event
Performed by one of Poland’s most thrilling outdoor theatre companies, who were at Bell Square last year with Tempest,
Eurydyka (Eurydice), is an open-air performance by Teatr Biuro Podróży, and tells about a love stronger than death. The play recalls the fate of two timeless heroes: Orpheus and Eurydice. Orpheus, unable to accept the loss of his beloved, decides to find her in the world of the dead. Orpheus' imaginary hell is full of rats. There, the hero has to face his memories, fears and passions. The idea of what is on the other side of life is mixed with earthly reality. Orpheus wanders on the border of the worlds. In his mind, earthly reality intertwines with the metaphysical underworld; trust struggles with doubt. Orpheus does not know what is tangible and real and what is but illusion and mirage. Intuition and determination lead him on his way to Eurydice. Thanks to them, Orpheus has the courage to face the Death. Meanwhile, Eurydice is waiting. Enslaved in Orpheus' imagination, she wants to get out of it; she fights; she is on the verge of insanity. She has hopes and loses them. Both heroes diverge. When the moment of their final meeting comes, their love is already dead.
