Shutter Flutter and Feel Me

Artist(s): Hacking the Body 2.0
Running Time: 12 Feb, 7pm

About this event

An evening featuring two performances: Shutter Flutter and Feel Me, brought to Watermans by Hacking the Body 2.0. Two interactive dance pieces, exploring custom made wearable tech garments worn by performers.

Hacking the Body 2.0 is a performance project that explores the current wearable technology fervour, where users’ intimate body data is collected under the pretence of medical or fitness monitoring. The ethics of corporate ownership of body data for consumerist agendas is rarely discussed. The two pieces here are the results of questioning how personal body data can demonstrate who we are as individuals. How does accessing one’s own data enable them to perform their identity? How can we explore these issues while enabling people access to their own data to interact with, especially in performance context?

This performance event builds upon a long-standing collaboration between the two lead artists and their previous Hacking the Bodyiterations exploring these questions as a starting point. Previous versions of this work have included participatory workshops in Australia (2013) and The Science Museum in London (2014) and R&D work at University of Creative Arts Epsom and Siobhan Davies Studios (April 2015).
